Calgary Home Rebates and Deadlines to Know Before the End of 2026
Buying a home is a big expense.
Owning one comes with plenty of costs too: property taxes, utilities, repairs, upgrades and everything in between.
That's why, whenever there's a rebate, grant or incentive that can put money back in Calgary homeowners' pockets, we like to share it.
And right now is a good time to look. A handful of home rebates and programs close between now and December 31, and a few year-end moves can make a difference at tax time.
Here's what Calgary homeowners and buyers should know for the last quarter of 2026, in deadline order, plus what's coming in the new year and what's already closed.

The $100 Alberta Energy Rebate
This is the one with the closest deadline.
The Government of Alberta is offering a one-time, $100 Alberta Energy Rebate, and the deadline to apply was extended to October 31, 2026.
You qualify if:
- You're an Alberta resident and were 18 or older as of July 1, 2026
- You filed your 2025 tax return
- Your household income is $225,000 or less
Can everyone in your home apply? In most cases, yes.
Every eligible adult can apply for their own $100. The only exception is couples: if you're married or common-law, you share one $100 payment, and one of you applies for both.
- Single adults: $100 each.
- Adult children (18+) living with their parents: They can apply for their own $100.
- Roommates: Each roommate can apply for their own $100.
- Married or common-law couples: One $100 payment for the two of you.
So a married couple with two adult kids living at home could get $300 total, as long as everyone meets the age, income and tax-filing rules.
To apply, sign in to your verified Alberta.ca Account, make sure your mailing address matches your ID, and apply through the province's Alberta Energy Rebate portal. You'll need your SIN (and your spouse or partner's details, if you have one). Payments go out by direct deposit or Interac e-Transfer within about 14 days.
The rebate isn't taxable and doesn't affect other benefits. If you receive the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, ADAP or Income Support, you're enrolled automatically.
It's $100 for a few minutes of your time.

The City will give you back up to $50 per new rain barrel, for up to three barrels per household.
The 2026 program closes October 31, 2026, or sooner if the 3,500 available rebates run out. You'll need an itemized receipt dated within the last 12 months.
Bought a rain barrel this spring or summer and never claimed it? Now's the time.

City of Calgary Home Water Savings Rebate
This one is new for 2026.
The City is offering up to $150 back on one WaterSense-labelled toilet, bathroom sink faucet or showerhead.
- It must be purchased and installed on or after August 4, 2026.
- One rebate per household.
- You'll need your ENMAX water account number.
- Applications close December 1, 2026, or sooner if the roughly 1,500 rebates are used up.
If you've been meaning to replace an old toilet before the holiday guests arrive, this is a good excuse.

Secondary Suite Fees Waived
The City's Secondary Suite Incentive Program, which paid up to $10,000 toward building a legal suite, is closed to new applicants and working through a waitlist.
But there's still a deal here.
Under The City's suite amnesty, development permit and registration fees for secondary suites are waived until December 31, 2026. If you've got an existing basement suite that isn't registered, getting it done before the end of the year saves you the fees.
City of Calgary Property Tax Assistance Program
If you're facing financial hardship, The City's Property Tax Assistance Program can give you a credit equal to your year-over-year property tax increase.
You apply through Fair Entry, The City's low-income application. The 2026 application window closes December 31, 2026.

Year-End Moves for Buyers and Renovators .jpg)
A few federal programs aren't on a deadline, but the end of the calendar year still matters for your taxes.
First Home Savings Account (FHSA)
You can contribute up to $8,000 a year to an FHSA, to a $40,000 lifetime limit. Contributions are tax-deductible, and withdrawals for a qualifying first home are tax-free.
FHSA contributions count for the calendar year they're made in. If you want this year's deduction, contribute by December 31.
Home Buyers' Plan (HBP)
First-time buyers can withdraw up to $60,000 from their RRSP toward a home. For first withdrawals made between 2026 and 2028, repayments don't start until the fifth year.
First-Time Home Buyers' GST Rebate
Buying a new or substantially renovated home? First-time buyers can get up to $50,000 back on the GST for homes up to $1 million, with a partial rebate up to $1.5 million.
First-Time Home Buyers' Tax Credit
A $10,000 amount you claim on your tax return for the year you buy, worth roughly $1,400 to $1,500 back.
Renovation Tax Credits
- Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit: A refundable credit on up to $50,000 of eligible costs to create a self-contained secondary unit for a family member who is 65 or older or eligible for the disability tax credit.
- Home Accessibility Tax Credit: A credit on up to $20,000 a year of eligible renovation costs that make a home safer and more accessible for someone 65 or older or eligible for the disability tax credit.
Timing can affect which tax year these credits fall into, so keep every receipt and talk to your accountant before year-end if you've got renovation work underway.

City of Calgary Home Upgrades Program
For income-qualified Calgarians, the Home Upgrades Program offers free energy upgrades, like high-efficiency furnaces, insulation and low-flow toilets, plus free DIY energy-saving kits and workshops. It's delivered by Kambo Energy Group on behalf of The City. Demand has been high, so there may be a waitlist for the upgrades themselves.

City of Calgary Heritage Conservation Grants
If your home is designated as a Municipal Historic Resource (or is in the process of being designated), The City offers matching grants of up to 50% of approved conservation work, to a maximum of $125,000 over 15 years for residential properties.

Alberta Programs for Seniors
- Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program: Homeowners 65 and older (only one spouse or partner needs to be 65) with at least 25% equity can have the province pay some or all of their property taxes through a low-interest home equity loan. There are no monthly payments, and the loan is repaid when the home is sold or is no longer your primary residence. Apply at least 30 days before your property tax deadline.
- Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP): Low-interest home equity loans of up to $40,000 for repairs, accessibility changes and energy-efficiency upgrades like furnaces, insulation and windows, for seniors with household incomes of $75,000 or less. No monthly payments. If you don't qualify for the loan, lower-income seniors may be able to get a grant instead.
Both are run by the Government of Alberta. The interest rate is currently 4.45% and is reviewed every April and October, so check the current rate before applying.

CMHC Refunds for Energy-Efficient Homes
If your mortgage is insured by CMHC, you may be able to get 25% of your mortgage insurance premium back by buying a qualifying energy-efficient new home (CMHC Eco Plus) or by spending at least $20,000 on energy-saving renovations within two years of buying (CMHC Eco Improvement).

City of Calgary Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)
CEIP isn't a rebate. It's financing.
It lets you borrow up to $50,000 for energy upgrades like heat pumps, solar panels, insulation and windows, and pay it back over up to 20 years through your property tax bill.
The residential program is currently closed and expected to reopen in winter 2026/2027. Rates are higher than in earlier years, so compare it with other financing before you sign up. You can sign up on The City's page to be notified when it reopens.
Programs That Have Closed
You'll still see these mentioned online, but they're no longer available:
- Canada Greener Homes Grant: Closed to new applicants.
- Canada Greener Homes Loan: Closed. Funding is fully committed.
- City of Calgary Resilient Roofing Rebate: The hail-resistant roofing rebate created after the 2020 hailstorm has ended and isn't being brought back.
- City of Calgary Secondary Suite Incentive Program: Closed to new applicants. Existing applicants are on a waitlist.
- City of Calgary New Home Energy Label rebate: The builder rebate closed in December 2025.
- Alberta home energy-efficiency and solar rebates: The province's older residential rebate programs have ended.
If a website or contractor quotes one of these as a reason to buy now, double-check before you sign anything.
What About Smart Home Upgrades? .jpg)
We get asked this a lot.
Right now, there's no Calgary or Alberta rebate for smart thermostats, smart lights or other smart home tech.
That doesn't mean they aren't worth it. A smart thermostat can still help cut heating costs through a Calgary winter. It just won't come with a cheque.
You can also look up your home on The City's free Home Energy Performance Map to see how its estimated energy use compares with similar homes.

A Few Tips Before You Apply
- Check first, buy second. Many rebates have purchase date rules and limited funding.
- Keep your receipts. Almost every program asks for itemized proof.
- Don't wait for the deadline. First-come, first-served programs can close early.
- Watch for scams. City programs are listed on calgary.ca, and Alberta programs on alberta.ca. If someone calls or knocks offering a "government rebate," verify it yourself.
