Calgary homeowners biggest fears unveiled!

With Halloween right around the corner, we wanted to get started early with the spooky side of home ownership! Based on the 100+ Calgary home owners we surveyed, we've uncovered the four biggest fears that homeowners have, along with a special Halloween edition where we polled Calgary home owners, and asked what their biggest 'Halloween style' home owner fear would be, continue reading below to find out what our polled home owners voted, and sound off in the comments with what your biggest fear would be!

Fire Damage 41%

The single biggest fear for our polled home owners was fire and fire damage. According to HomeAdvisor.com, the average cost to repair damages to a home resulting from a fire is $8,327 - With the risk of losing everything, it's understandable why fires are the biggest fears most home owners have. Natural Disasters 24%

Floods, Wildfires, Blizzards, Hail, Tornadoes, Landslides and other natural disasters drive this fear into second place with home owners. Although we believe this number would be higher for home owners in different geographic regions that are more prone to natural disasters. Calgary in recent years has experienced a devastating natural disaster with the floods, thousands of home owners displaced, renters with nowhere to go, etc. It's important that you make sure you're covered as a home owner and renter, although overland water isn't covered, sewer back up is, this can often be a saving grace during flood times providing coverage for additional living expenses (i.e. renting/living somewhere else while your home is repaired)

Break In / Theft 20%

Crime and loss of possessions takes third on our list as 20% of home owners fear break ins and theft as their biggest fear. We dug further into this vote and asked those who voted, what exactly their fears were. Ultimately, a majority of the responses stated that they were afraid to lose irreplaceable items/possessions/heirlooms coupled with the thought of potentially being home during a break in / robbery driving their decisions.

Insects / Pests 15%

Although Alberta is deemed rat free, that doesn't mean we're pest free. From spiders to mice, insects and pest infestation closes out in 4th place with 15% choosing this to be their biggest fears. Many respondents simply just stated that their fears for rodents and/or insects was extreme, and they'd have a hard time living in their home knowing they had an infestation.

BIGGEST HOME OWNERS FEAR 'HALLOWEEN' edition?

We polled over one hundred Calgary Home Owners and asked what their biggest Halloween fear would be if all the stories, characters, and creatures were true! From ghosts to Frankenstein, Michael Myers to Jason, Vampires, Werewolves, and more. An overwhelming majority voted a 'Zombie Apocalypse' as being their biggest fear, with over 62% stating this would be their biggest fear Halloween fear!
